MasterSource was formed in 1992 by Marc Ferrari. Moving to Los
Angeles in 1984, Marc was signed to Danny Goldberg's Gold Mountain
Records label as the guitarist for hard rockers "Keel."
The band went on to record 4 albums, win critical acclaim and tour the
world several times over before disbanding in 1989. He then went on to
form "Cold Sweat," which released an album in 1990 on MCA Records.
Having several "Keel" songs utilized in movie soundtracks, Marc realized
the ongoing need that the film and TV community had for real songs from
real artists that could be licensed quickly and for competitive fees.
Initially representing only his own music and that of several close
friends, Marc then began to acquire publishing and master use rights in
a multitude of different genres of music; in effect becoming both the
Publisher and the Record Company. This allowed his clients to clear both
of these rights in one simple phone call, and for Marc to be flexible in
negotiating terms for these uses. Companies such as Warner Television,
Paramount Television, Spelling Productions and Disney Pictures realized
the value of such a relationship and became early clients. His
association with these companies continued to flourish and eventually
expanded to include every major network and studio. (see TV Credits, and
Film Credits).
In 1996, he compiled the first MasterSource box-set of CDs which had a phenomenal response: generating nearly 300 licenses upon its release. He was honored by the Academy of Arts and Sciences for his contributions to the 1995-1996 Emmy - Award winning show "Guiding Light," and became a 2-time recipient of ASCAP's "Special Writer Award." 1996 also saw the Summer Olympics use over 50 cues from the catalog, including the music for the U.S. Swim team video tribute, "Capture The Dream."
Since those early days MasterSource has continued to grow, both in its catalog of music and credits; working with prestigious directors, editors, film companies, major TV networks and numerous advertising agencies and post production facilities.
We invite you to explore the website and welcome your feedback, as we always want to improve our client's online experience and continue to be the industry leader in our field.
